Conservation and Management of Dry Grasslands in Eastern Slovenia” (LIFE14 NAT / SI / 000005)
Overview
Scheme
The main objective of the project LIFE TO GRASSLANDS “Conservation and Management of Dry Grasslands in Eastern Slovenia” (LIFE14 NAT / SI / 000005) is to improve unfavourable status and to ensure long-term multifunctional use of grasslands on chosen project areas in Slovenia.
Through the project we developed and tested a RBPS for species rish dry grasslands (6210* and 6230*).

Location of the scheme
several regionsThe RBPS for species rich grasslands is applied at four project areas (Haloze, Pohorje, Kum and Gorjanci (Natura 2000 sites).
Duration of the scheme
Since: 2015Until: 2020
Objective(s) of the scheme / project
- Biodiversity
RBPS for Species-rich grasslands (two priority habitat types: 6210* and 6230*)
Which habitats or species are in the focus of the scheme / project?
- Only habitats of FFH-D.
6210* Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia) (*) important orchid sites
6230* Species-rich Nardus grasslands, on siliceous substrates in mountain areas at four project sites
Which indicators are used?
- Species (incl FFH and BD)
- Landscape Elements
Indicator plant species specific for each area in combination with physical structures (bare soil, structure of grasslands, invasive species)
Design of scheme / project
- Pure Result Based Payments
By which fund(s) is the scheme / project implemented?
- LIFE
How are the incentives (payment levels) calculated?
- Other
How many hectares are in the scheme (year 2020)?
- 501 – 1.000
How many farmers take part in the scheme?
- 101 – 500
Are there any evaluation results (2020)?
- Yes
Showroom
Evaluation
Evaluation is being carried out by project staff, at the beginning and after 5 years. In addition farmers are being thought to identify indicator plants in order to be able to self-assess the status of their grasslands.
